Ugur Cimen at Fenerbahce Stadium

Cimen, 34, a coach at various levels with Konya Spor of the top-flight Turkish Super League from 1995 until January of this year, has been with Konya’s first team since 2003. He arrived in Toronto recently with his wife, Tugba and one-year old son, Kagan and came to terms with the Astros early March.

 

“We are delighted to have Ugur in the Astros organization. He brings a wealth of experience with one of Turkey’s top clubs and we are confident he will raise our level of the last two years even higher,” said Astros’ general manager at the signing on March 6.

 

Ugur becomes the ninth coach in North York’s 19^th year history and Ierullo considers the club may now be well positioned for a top placing in the CSL’s National Division. The Astros have signed a number of players returning from last year’s first team and eight players have been confirmed for the important second string in the CSL Reserve Division. Ierullo expects to have most of the club’s roster complete by training camp on April 1 and the training will hit a more serious note when North York plays its first exhibition game at Esther Shiner on April 19, a 5 p.m. kickoff.

 

The CSL will kickoff its season mid-May.
